Borate Wood Treatment
Bora-Care is a borate-based termiticide, insecticide and fungicide. It has an active
ingredient Disodium Octoborate Tetrahydrate, and utilizes glycol technology to maximize
the penetration of the active ingredient into the wood. During the dried-in phase of
construction, it is applied directly to the concrete and in a three-foot band to all wood that
comes in contact with the foundation, creating a barrier as well as eliminating wood as a
food source. It soaks completely into the wood, providing protection against subterranean
termites, carpenter ants, wood boring beetles and wood decay fungi. Bora-Care remains in
the wood as long as the wood is in service. Advantages are that it is applied during the
dried in phase of construction and that there is no “down-time” to construction workers
waiting for the soil to be treated. It is safe because of its low toxicity to humans and it is
very cost effective. Disadvantages are that it will not protect parts of the structure that have
not been treated and it will not stop tube building because it is not applied to the soil. All of
Turner’s Bora-Care treatments come with a $250,000 warranty to the homeowner. This
treatment can act as a standalone treatment, or be combined with a Soil treatment, or a
Premise Wrap.
